Moving Stories These are true accounts of families we have helped. The names have been changed out of respect for their privacy.
Mr. Roe Significant changes were happening in Mr. Roe's life. His wife had passed away a few years ago, and after this loss Mr. Roe had a difficult time keeping a home. What was once a neat and tidy place to live was now cluttered to the point where it was difficult to pass from room to room. The problem was made worse because now Mr. Roe could no longer throw anything away! Health concerns meant he needed to move to where he could receive more care, and so his house needed to be sold. Mr. Roe and his children were able to breathe a great sigh of relief when in just three days, we had his 2,500 square foot home and grounds ready for his real-estate agent to put the home on the market. Mr. Roe and his children kept some items for themselves. The rest was taken care of by A Smooth Move. We sold many items on consignment (through Craigslist and eBay), donated others, and brought in dumpsters to dispose of the rest. Our companion business Freshen Up took care of cleaning the home from top to bottom.
The Johnsons The Johnson family found itself in a difficult situation. Their father, who was the primary caregiver for their mother, passed away unexpectedly. The family, most of whom lived out-of-state, had to act quickly to find a senior care facility that mom could move in to. During the following weekend the family arrived in town to make funeral arrangements. They contacted A Smooth Move to handle all of the moving details. The funeral for father was held on Monday. By noontime Tuesday, mother’s most precious belongings were packed. Three hours later, all of her favorite furniture, collections and decorations were carefully placed in her new home. Mrs. Johnson and her children were thankful that they could tend to mom’s needs, knowing that the move was in good hands.
He "Just Needed Some Furniture Moved" Have you ever stepped into a situation expecting one thing, only to get something completely different? We recently received a call from a real estate agent who had an older gentleman as a client. The agent informed us his client needed some furniture moved around in the house to allow painting and carpet replacement before the house was to be put up for sale. One of our move managers arranged a meeting with the gentleman, and it was apparent very quickly that he needed more help than just moving the furniture around. He was surrounded by fifty years worth of memories that had to be dealt with. Fortunately, this situation is exactly what A Smooth Move is in business for. Our mission is to make moving a pleasant experience for older adults, and we do so by helping with all of the details involving a move. In the case of this older gentleman, we were able to quickly assemble a crew to help him sort through his belongings. We helped him decide what to keep for his new home, set things aside for his children, sold other items through consignment, donated here and there, and even threw a few things away! After a two days’ work, the client breathed a sigh of relief as the many rooms that had gone untouched for so long were cleared out and ready for freshening. We not only help our clients through the actual move but also with the emotional aspects of making that move. |
